  • Oscar Milian "Oscar Milian" - I am very pleased with this productNot easy to drop this kind of money for an exercise bike when you can get others for far less money that will get the job done. You see what sets this bike apart from the others is the unique way it presents the work out with the ifit and google street maps. Other bikes are boring and not really trying to get you in the action the way this bike does. I mapped out a ride I do close to my home and the similarities are incredible with wind resistance, incline and street map. I feel I am there and makes my ride much more enjoyable and therefore makes me come back the next day for more. This is why after reading the good and the bad reviews I took a chance on this bike. I have to say I am so glad I did. First of all the first generation of these bikes left a bad taste on the consumers and that is a fact. I see it this way they suffered so we can have it easy now. This is the second generation of these units they have been modified and most of the bad wrinkles have been taken out of the product. That is not to say that some are not going to get some lemons but that is the way it is with anything you buy. You have 30 days to return the product no questions asked. That is why I bought it through amazon and no one else, even when there are other companies with sweet deals to sell you this item. When I received the bike I had no problems setting it up and getting it to hook up with my IFIT account. In the second week I ran in to some problems with the console not remembering my IFIT login credentials so I called the company.I did not have to wait on the phone for more than 5 minutes before a gentleman helped me out and assured me that this was not normal and it would be taken care of. I was sent a new console in a week and I have the bike now for over 2 months and I am using it just about everyday. I have to say that reading the manual and taking care of the bike will go a long way for this product to function for a long time. I also bought through amazon a 4 year warranty plan I hope I don't have to use it but if I do let's hope that works out as well. I will not talk about the features since they are widely advertised and they work well with the bike. I will say this if you are looking for something that you can use to exercise and not forget about it as many that are left in the corner of a room collecting dust this is the product for you. I am very pleased with this product even if in the beginning I was afraid about the bad reviews. I don't usually take the time to write a review of a product since time is precious for me but I have been taking other peoples time by using their reviews to help me buy products. So it is the right thing to do to give back to others as well. I thank everyone that takes the time to give a helpful review of a product. I would recommend this product to anyone that has the money and wants to make a change in their lives by exercising.

I previously reviewed this book in December of 2005 when the first edition was available. You can find my initial review of the first edition on Amazon and on my web site. We are now in the third edition and this highly utilitarian book continues to amass and prove its value. The name ABX Guide is deceptive since we are all familiar with small booklets which describe a full range of anti-infectives with dosage recommendations and sensitivity details. In fact there are a very many such small publications. Here with the Johns Hopkins ABX Guide you are getting an entirely different animal. The first edition was 655 pages with a pull out chart. This third edition is 886 pages and the chart is gone. I liked the sensitivity chart with quick access recommendations. But I suppose we can't have everything. What we do still have is a book that can slip into a lab coat or other convenient carry method yet contains a wealth of easily and quickly accessible authoritative Infections Disease information. This is not a Drug Guide, it is much more. It is broken down into five basic categories as follows: Diagnosis, Pathogens, Management, Drugs and Vaccines. It further has three appendix covering Therapeutic Tables for Specific Diagnosis and Pathogens, General Therapeutic Tables and Drug to Drug Interaction Tables, plus an Index! I again remind you this will all fit in your lab coat. The information here is that which is well recognized, without significant controversy and widespread in its application. If you use this book as intended you will not be disappointed. What it is not and what it is unable to provide is a widespread, detailed, in depth discussion of infectious disease nor does it provide controversial or minority alternative views as to treatment recommendations. An example are the entries under Lyme Disease which follow the IDSA Guidelines from which I and others dissent. What is additionally very useful are the brief entries entitled "Basis of Recommendations" that are part of each monograph for further reading. This book has no shortage of honesty either. Under Lymphadenopathy "Basis of Recommendations", it clearly states "author opinion" and "No Guidelines available for diagnostic algorithm".
I appreciate such forthright clarity. This is not a substitute for Kucers/Crowe Use of Antibiotics which is a gem and treasure. Do not look for that here. But to have such diverse, reliable and authoritative pocket guide to Infectious Disease is quite an accomplishment. This pocket book is a service to all those in need of such information and should be in your pocket so it can be used to protect both your patient and yourself. And you don't even need a computer! • Miss L C - Lost 4 lbs in 1 week...this REALLY works. This is not a fad diet, to me, this is a whole new eating lifestyle!
I must admit that I was a bit reluctant to try this "low carb, high fat" diet, but I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing seemed to work!
I used to workout 5x a week last year and was on a low calorie diet, and I lost only 4 lbs in 2 months.
Disappointed and discouraged with my results, I just stopped going to the gym.
Low calorie diets DON'T work for me - I used to stock up on lean cuisine meals whenever they would go on sale, because I thought it was convenient and easy to count calories that way.
However, I am hungry an hour later after eating a lean cuisine meal.
So I just recently took a step back and analyzed my eating habits - lots of "low calorie" foods but high in carb.
I ate lots of oatmeal, wheat bread, sugary granola bars that I thought were healthy, those "100 calorie" snacks etc - I was ALWAYS hungry.
That's when I realized that I wouldn't be able to lose any weight this way, and that I had to reanalyze my eating habits.
That's when I started researching about low carb diets and found Dr. Atkin's book. It made a lot of sense to me....as I read it at the bookstore, the words "ah ha!" kept repeating in my head.
I quickly purchased the book (earlier this week) and I've already lost 4 lbs. Sure, it's probably water weight, but I FEEL great. I see and feel myself getting thinner, I'm NEVER hungry and I don't crave sweets at all.
I'm not following the induction phase thoroughly, but I'm maintaining a low carb intake.
If I want veggies, I'll eat it. Fruits? I'll have an apple and munch on grilled chicken to keep my insulin levels in check. Bread? I'll have a slice of low carb 5g wheat bread with cheese.
I just got back from a party and needless to say, they had a wide array of delicious sweets & tempting food - but I wasn't craving any of it...and this is coming from a girl that loves to bake cupcakes, pastries and desserts!
I now snack on sugar-free jello gelatin when I'm in the mood for something sweet.
I had 1/2 of a cupcake and ate grilled chicken kabob right after. The point is, keep it balanced...moderation is key, you CAN have a low carb lifestyle. It doesn't mean you can never have a cupcake/donut again, just listen to your body and don't abuse it. If I want a donut, I'll eat 1/3 of one with an egg white omelette.
I never eat carbs alone, I always pair it with some sort of protein...it's working for me so far :)
I have a wedding to attend in 3 weeks, so I'll definitely stick with this low carb phenomenon. Thank you Dr. Atkins for showing me the way....I've been getting compliments from family members & friends and it hasn't even been a week!
Give it a shot! It's totally worth it :)
  • Matthew Holzmann - This book changed my lifeI had a sinking feeling when I saw the title to this heartfelt and heartwarming life guide. Truth be told, it is a phobia, perhaps even a mania my fear of huge ships. It's normally a fatal outcome being pursued inexorably by a huge ship through dangerous eel infested waters with shoals and reefs all around one.

The dark, looming shadow of impending death bearing down upon one clarifies the mind mightily. JFK could have well used The Skipper's advice when run over by that Japanese destroyer. If he had read this book, Nixon might have been the one in Dallas on that fateful day.

And there I was in the Straights of Malacca, huge ships all around me churning the ocean into a raging torrent of foam and danger. Waves crashing against the sheer, unyielding hulls of the huge ships like Neptune's bastard offspring having a temper tantrum. Flotsam on the port and jetsam on the starboard (pretty good, that). The wind howling like a banshee or maybe a terrorized badger. The sound of the collision klaxon like a shrieking demon and at that point I knew that I had to have this book no mater the price or the pain.

    Powerful stuff, eh?

The chapter on avoiding huge ships at Shriner's Conventions was invaluable. The author's well reasoned and easy to understand outline of the proposed International Convention on Huge Ship Turn Signals (ICHSTS) was fascinating.

The German U Boat Captain's perspective and recommendations were riveting. Danger lurks both under and on the sea. He torpedoe'd the idea of limits on huge ships.

The only way to truly avoid huge ships is to ban them or limit them to 7 round magazines.
  • Morgan - A return to form!!I have been reading the Pendergast books for a little over 10 years now. A d I can say that the authors have had some ups and downs. I was not a massive fan of the Hellen trilogy, yet in reading this addition to the series, all I can say is: Pendergast is back!! This was a fantastic book with all the twists and turns that we expect from one of these books. It's also a return to a historical drama/mystery. The historical aspect of this book is strong, and really helps feed the modern parts of the book. I also feel as if Pendergast is less reclusive and back to his normal self. One of the best aspects of this book is the relationship between Corrie and Aloysius, and it's awesome to see the dynamics of it.
